What Is This All About
The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) has begun a two-year process for completing environmental documentation and developing the engineering drawings necessary for obtaining federal funding assistance for building and operating passenger rail service.  Federal funds would come through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

During this effort, up to a 30 percent level of engineering detail (called Preliminary Engineering or PE) will be developed for a passenger rail line that would start in Denton and end in Carrollton.  The route, which was approved by the DCTA Board of Directors in May 2005, after extensive study and public input, generally follows along the east side of I-35E.

The environmental impacts associated with the engineering and design details will be fully documented through an environmental review process in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  The process will include completion of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
